Over 250,000,000 gallons per day of reclaimed sewage water that is treated by the city then dumped back into the lake a couple of miles “upstream” of the water intakes for the city would be good. And the fact that sewage treatment plants do not remove contaminants like pharmaceuticals, and neither do refrigerator filters, would be eye-opening for the majority of people who are not aware of that.
High chlorine levels and how chlorine oxidation damage is almost as bad as hard water damage over the long haul. Failed water-using appliances and elastics in clothing due to oxidation damage result in high replacement costs which add significantly to the long-term expense of living with poor quality water.
HARD WATER
Hard water is the most common culprit in Nevada. Hard water dries out skin and hair, causes soap residue to build up in tubs and showers, and leaves spots on faucets and shower doors.
Water is a natural solvent and given the needed time and conditions, it will dissolve anything it comes in contact with. That’s why, depending on where you live, your water can contain iron or manganese which can cause rusty-orange or black staining. You’ll see the stains on clothes, fixtures, sinks, tubs, water-using appliances and toilets.
Chlorine is used in municipalities to disinfect water supply; however, Kinetico suggests that it’s filtered out prior to faucet flow. High levels of chlorine dries out skin, hair, and is overall unappealing.
